STATISTIC DATA ON THE HVAC - HVAC&R MARKET IN EUROPE, MIDDLE-EAST AND AFRICA

Market Intelligence Programmes

Market Intelligence service contains 2 kinds of collection :

Annual Collection:
Collection organized at the beginning of each year (January/February) in order to extract the sales data of the previous year. It concerns almost all countries in Europe, plus some in Africa and Middle East.

Market Evolution:
Simplified collection organized at the end of each quarter, thus 4 times/year, in January, April, July and October, in order to know the market trend and evolution. It concerns the main European countries or areas.

Data collections are divided into following Statistics Programmes:

AIR CURTAINS
[A directionally-controlled airstream, moving across the entire height and width of an opening, which reduces the infiltration or transfer of air from one side of the opening to the other and/or inhibits flying insects, dust or debris from passing through.]

Data collections are organized annually.
The first data collection has started in 2012. The data are available in units with some splits by market, air flow range and type of heating.

AIR HANDLING UNITS (AHU)
[A double wall casing with at least a filter, a fan and a temperature controlling component delivering air to the building with minimum 1000m3/h; only full AHU may be accounted, not AHU sections.]

Data collections are organized annually and quarterly (Market Evolution).
Each year, the annual collection involves more than 40 manufacturers. The data are available in value (€), with a split by capacity range, expressed in air flow of cubic meters per hour.

AIR FILTERS
[Air Filter Element: A filter unit to clean air from particulate contamination comprising filter material including framing, supporting parts and gaskets, the total to be inserted into a filter housing device.]

Data collections are organized annually since 2010. The data are available in value (€) with a split by type of filter (coarse, medium and fine, gas, HEPA and ULPA).

CHILLED BEAMS (SUSPENDED)
[Passive Chilled Beam : Natural convection for cooling only with water or any other liquid and mounted under the ceiling or integrated into a false ceiling.
Active Chilled Beam : Forced convection/induction including ventilation, cooling and/or heating (1-way, 2-way or 4-way air distribution) with water or any other liquid and mounted under the ceiling or integrated into a false ceiling.
Chilled ceiling : Convector of heat transfer mounted under the ceiling or integrated into a false ceiling. ]

Data collections are organized annually. The data are available in value (€) with a split by type of product (active, passive, perimeter units).

CHILLERS (LIQUID CHILLING PACKAGES)
[A factory assembled unit of the self-contained type designed to cool liquid using a compressor, an evaporator and an integral condenser and appropriate controls.]

Data collections are organized annually and quarterly (Market Evolution).
The annual collection started in 1997 and involves more than 20 manufacturers every year. It is the most complete programme of the Market Intelligence Project. The data are available in units with various very detailed splits. There is 3 splits :
by technology (rotary, centrifugal, absorption),
by application (water, brine, air, cooling only, heating only, reversible, ducted/non-ducted, ...)
by capacity range (expressed in kW). The types of refrigerant are collected as well.

Moreover, there exists a quarterly collection specific only to the chillers programme. It is as accurate as the annual one; however it concerns a smaller number of countries and the participants are a constant panel. This quarterly collection allows to survey almost in real time the exact evolution of the market.

COOLING TOWERS (CT)
[Heat rejection device, which extracts waste heat to the atmosphere though the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature. The generic term "cooling tower" is used to describe both direct (open circuit) and indirect (closed circuit) heat rejection equipment.]

Data collections are organized annually since 2007.
The data are available in value (€) and in units with a first split by type (open wet or closed wet), and a second split by capacity, expressed in square meters of sprayed area.

FAN COIL UNITS (FCU)
[A factory made assembly which provides the functions of cooling and/or heating air using chilled or hot water with air flow to the room ensured by one or more electrically driven fans.]

Data collections are organized annually and quarterly (Market Evolution).
Started in 1996, the annual collection involves about 20 manufacturers.
The data are available in units with :
a first split by type (with or without casing, cassette, ducted or hi-wall),
and a second split by capacity, expressed in number of pipes (2 or 4).
For this year, the number of units sold as chilled beams will be collected as well.

HEAT EXCHANGERS (HE)
[Refrigeration system component transferring heat between air and a refrigerant or liquid by mechanically circulating air with integral fans and fan drives.]

Data collections are organized annually since 2010.
The data are available in value (€) and in units with a split by type of application (air cooled condensers, coolers or dry coolers).

HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEMS (HRS)

[Air to air plate or tube heat exchanger: Heat exchanger designed to transfer thermal energy (sensible or total) from one air stream to another without moving parts. Heat transfer surfaces are in form of plates or tubes. This exchanger may have parallel flow, cross flow or counter flow construction or a combination of these.

Regenerative Heat Exchanger: Device incorporating an alternating storage system or a rotating cylinder or wheel for the purpose of transferring energy (sensible or total) from one air stream to the other. It incorporates heat transfer material, a drive mechanism, a casing or frame, and includes any seals which are provided to retard the bypassing and leakage of air from one air stream to the other.

Run around coil: matched pair of coil heat exchangers, piped together in a continuous loop through which the heat-exchange medium (water or a water/anti-freeze mix) flows. A pump pack ensures that the medium keeps flowing in a single direction at a constant rate.

Heat pipes: battery of multi-row finned heat pipe tubes located within both the supply and exhaust air streams. Within the exhaust air side of the heat pipe, the refrigerant evaporates, taking its heat from the extract air. The refrigerant vapour moves towards the cooler end of the tube, within the supply air side of the device, where it condenses and gives up its heat. The condensed refrigerant returns by a combination of gravity and capillary action in the wick.]

Data collections are organized annually. It started in 2015 and it concerns 19 manufacturers. The data are available in units and in units with a first split by regenerative heat exchangers (condensation rotors, hydroscopic rotors and scorption rotors), a second split by plate heat exchangers (cross flow and counter flow) and a third split by Run-around-coil and Heat pipes.

PRECISION AIR CONDITIONERS (CLOSE CONTROLS)
[Unit designed to satisfy the requirements of the process carried out in the conditioned enclosure.]

Data collections are organized annually.
The first data collection has started in 2012 and concerns alreday almost all the manufacturers. The data are available in units with some splits by type of system and capacity range.

POOL DEHUMIDIFIERS
[Specific units for the air treatment and the management of temperature and hygrothermic conditions in the swimming pools.]

Data collections are organized annually. The first data collection has started in 2015 and involves 15 manufacturers. The data are available in units with a split by single flow and double flow (≤7500m³/h and >7500m³/h)

REFRIGERATED DISPLAY CABINETS (RDC) (SUSPENDED)
[Cabinet cooled by a refrigerating system which enables chilled and frozen foodstuff placed therein for display to be maintained within prescribed temperature limits.]

Data collections, usually organized annually, are currently suspended.
The data were available in units with a split by type (plug-in or remote).

ROOFTOPS (RT)
[Comfort air conditioner, packaged unit assembled in factory, common single frame, direct expansion system, air cooled condenser with axial fan, water cooled, designed to operate permanently outdoors with the possibility to be installed on roof curb for vertical flow; Cold or warm supply air provided through a duct.]

Data collections are organized annually and quarterly (Market Evolution).
The annual collection started in 2004 and involves about 10 manufacturers. The data are available in units with :
a first split by type (cooling only, reversible, gas-fired or not)
and a second split by capacity range, expressed in number of kW.
